  • Ubisoft is going too far...

The intent of this post is not to bash Ubisoft or anyone working for them. I only want to point out recent events and how their plans are not such a good idea. I want to point them in the right direction.
    CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!!!
    Please be respectful with replies.

As you well already know, A LOT of known people in the community have been banned from anywhere between 60-730 days (730 days is permanent). A lot of the punishments were given out for breaking rules that were in the gray area. I won't name anyone, but I'm referring to the roulette wheel situation. I may not know the full story, so I'm not going to say too much about this, but from what I heard, it wasn't that big of a deal. Feel free to correct me, though!

I, myself was also permanently banned a week ago or so, reason is still unknown. Ubisoft is refusing to give me a proper explanation (I opened 2 cases with them about the ban, which they both closed without a reply). Every contact I have is basically ignoring me.

I saw an Instagram story of a list of all the known players that were punished in the last few months. All whom aren't the most kid friendly... that's what made me suspicious. I don't want to make allegations, since I don't know anything 100%, but how I see this is that Ubisoft is attempting to make the community look entirely kid friendly. That means if you're well known in the game and you're not the perfect boi, then you get the thanos snap. That's just what it looks like... especially since I know I'm not the friendliest person. I'm nice if you're nice.

Not convinced Ubisoft is making the game more kid friendly? Who did they sponsor most recently... that guy with 2.6 million subscribers or so. And judging from his channel style (thumbnails, video editing, earlier content) I can tell you, that guy has a young audience (5-10 yrs old).

You may be asking why should people care if Ubisoft is trying to make the game more kid friendly? Well, they're taking it a bit too far.
    3 points to show so:
    * Harsh bans on players who swear and/or make sexual jokes (and not caring whether or not it was just with friends and/or that the person you said it to didn't care about it)
    * Banning known players (non kid friendly) and giving very vague explanations to them.
    * Getting rid of any even slightly bad growid's (people with ''bad'' numbers in their name, like anyone with 420). I'm guessing 69 is next.

Those are just the 3 points that came off the top of my head.

You might be thinking that it's not a big deal that Ubisoft is being more strict on their rules. Well, let me run a scenario past you. All non kid friendly players get banned (mostly the ones that are actual good players and make it more fun to play), Ubisoft starts promoting their game by sponsoring even more channels with a young audience. The game gets tons of kids anywhere from the ages 5-10. Kids at that age should not be playing a game like Growtopia. I'm saying this only because it's true. They'll only end up getting scammed because they don't know any better and probably cry. You think parents want their kids to play a game that makes them cry? Yeah, say goodbye to that game. UNINSTALL! Parents start talking, maybe a couple media posts. Growtopia dies out, because all the fun people left when it got swormed with children.

Yeah, they may get a lot of money from in-game purchases, but long term it's just a mess.

Now, I did say this is a constructive criticism post, so let me actually give you some ideas, Ubisoft.

Firstly, don't be so strict on rules. You weren't here for this, but back in 2013-2015 people were chilling (and ofcourse farming like crazy). The game was good, rules weren't strict, ofcourse scammers and hackers were punished, but it was actually OK to swear and make a couple not so family friendly jokes. The community was nice. People were talking to each other, making new friends. Good times! Games with just children in it who barely know how to communicate and actually don't know how to be a person that's fun to be around is not the type of game that's gonna last. Maybe sponsor a couple of channels with a more mature audience? To balance out all the young kids.

A point that I need to bring out is that your game has Personal Settings (or Parental Controls, however you like to call them) where the child or it's parent can put on ''Filter inappropriate language'', which would mean the kids don't even see the swear words. You might say ''every parent doesn't check the game themselves and don't know about any parental controls''.. well that's their problem. If I had a kid, I would check every game that has an online server before I let him/her play it. No need to punish players for speaking inappropriately (swear words and/or sexual jokes). Or atleast keep them out of public broadcasts, that sounds reasonable.

I thought you might add this during PAW 2019, but you didn't. Add a feature that gives the player a reason for their punishment (right next to the ban duration or really anywhere there). It only slows down support if every player that didn't know what they got banned for has to open a case. Let them open a case if they want to appeal it.

Don't remove GrowIDs that have been in the game for almost the entirety of the game's existance. I'm referring to the 3 digit GrowID, which was linked to a type of grass (if you know you know). There was a pretty famous YouTuber in the GT community a while back before Ubisoft came in, and he had those same 3 digits in his GrowID, and none of the mods or developers seemed to have mind that, so why should you?

I think we all know by now that the game's peak has long passed. It's only gonna go even more downhill from here unless you stop banning people for reasons that aren't that bad.

I was sb banned the same day I got banned. And it was for ''avoiding the 10 minute sb cooldown'' while an Ubisoft employee clearly stated on the forums that it was not infact illegal to avoid the cooldown, since you could switch worlds and it wore off by design. But yet I got a 30 day sb ban for it anyway. After I did that whole ''UwU'' sb thing, it actually became a big thing in the community. People were actually just having fun and sbing that just as a stupid joke. Even mods eventually joined in on the joke, while at first they were against the whole thing. Players were having fun, and the one that started that whole thing got banned for it.

DON'T BAN PEOPLE FOR HAVING FUN!!! - Especially when it's just harmless and nobody gets hurt because of it.

BE MORE CLEAR ABOUT RULES!!! - One mod says one thing, the other the opposite. BRUH MOMENT!

I deeply apologize for writing this much, but I wanted to make it very clear what I was trying to say.

Give me your thoughts and let's have a discussion. And I'll say this again, PLEASE keep the replies civil and respectful!
    Thinking about you.

I am lazy to read the whole post, but i disagree with moderators banning.

They think one ban is not a big deal but when they ban old players it can be wasted thousands of life. It wouldnt be wrong if it was fair ban but these days mods ban ppl or ppl get banned by autoban system and they cant admit their mistake and thats really unfair to the player, which loved GT.

Also when ppl get autobanned it takes too long for them to unban the players which it just unfair to the players

          I can't agree more, and it's sad.

@Mods also don't care about rich players like yourself who don't spend money on this game, that's why they ban OG rich players, they don't have to spend money on the game so they are trash for ubisoft.

You will be forgotten soon, and they know it.. that's why they give 0 fks

Unfortunately, they infringed on our rules multiple times in the past, going so far as in breaking The Growtopian Code with a recent exploit in the game, in which we were able to get enough proof of their malicious intent based on our investigation, leaving us no choice but removing them from the game permanently. After a thorough investigation, we are sorry to say, that we don't think there is much room for redemption going forward.

Removing well-known players from the game is nothing we do lightly, but we would like to ask for your understanding that we want to keep the community a friendly place without deliberately created controversy. We hope that this clarifies the steps we had to take to ensure a pleasant game experience for everyone.
This is the official quote on what NeKoRei had to say regarding the situation between the users who got banned. Keep in mind not a single ubisoft staff member hold a grudge on any sort of user who hasn't done anything wrong to deserve the punishment. If you feel like you've gotten punished unfairly then you can contact Customer Support and they'll follow you up on what will happen next.

Also the situation between 420 has been also clarified by a staff member

Have an inappropriate in-game name. As we have mentioned, let’s keep the languages in the game a family-friendly one and that includes in-game names. Be reminded that when the Team see an inappropriately named account, we will change it without notice."
We are happy to rename your GrowID to a proper name to a name of their liking. Also note that we have to rename your FORUM NAME as well.

We saw that you already emailed customer support about this so kindly email us back again to send us your name suggestions there. It has to be a proper name.

Also it is against our rules that Mods ask for anything in return for helping you out. This kind of act could lead to their mod account termination. We are happy to investigate this in detail and take appropriate measures, but for that you also need to provide us with more details and proof via support if your claim is indeed true. DO NOTE THAT FALSE CLAIMS can lead to suspension of your account.

Not sure where you got that assumption though that you're not allowed to swear, You are. As long as you use common sense and don't directly attack someone with racial slurs or call them names. (There's also a option on censoring profanity)

It's great to also see users have fun in the game, but it can't go overboard with the joke. Some jokes may go too far hence could potentially make a chaos in the game.

This is clearly easily avoidable IF you do not break any rules to begin with. Let's be real here, if you go out of your way to break the rules (Even bending the rules or trying to be in the grey area) will get you banned and there's warnings everywhere to follow the rules. It's as simple as that. It's your wrongdoing which you have to face consequences for later on.

Read them first then you can start criticising the rules. The Growtopia code is informative enough, you should also count common sense in the rules as well. Growtopia Moderators DO NOT have to pinpoint every little small thing there is. You have to use your own brain sometimes as well, clearly you've given the power to do it, might as well use it.

Trying to bend the rules or find alternative loop holes in the rules will get you punished as well if seen non appropriate.

I agree with the personal settings part, for sure, as instead of banning curses and mild sexual jokes, Ubisoft could implement better child and parent-friendly parental controls. Some curses, not excessive, and mild sexual jokes, not as inappropriate, among friends should be allowed, but definitely not in broadcasts. Also, with the ban reasons, maybe the developers could include a small menu on what to ban someone for when the mods do so, like for example, spam, inappropriate content/comments, scamming other players, running of an illegal world (casinos), etc, (i honestly don't know if they have this, but im pretty sure they don't) and have the ban reason listed, so people do not complain about why they got banned. Another thing is that support should definitely open up, as many players have complained in the past that support refused to answer their questions. Also, about name changing, I do agree with their decisions to change certain names referencing more inappropriate/sexual content, but seriously, ubi? Changing someone's name that really doesn't reference much of anything inappropriate without their knowledge and consent would be a bit going too far. Perhaps, at least, if you wanted them to change their name, you could recommend them to change it, before you guys did so.

If a Ubisoft developer, moderator, or game guardian reads this, thanks, and maybe you could possibly pass this on as a thought

really not the same point as i made. graffiti is mainly done on someones property who most likely doesnt want it there. and going above 50 could be dangerous and put your own and possibly someone else's life in danger.

                    2020-END GAME???

I agree on every point on this thread... many known and unknown people are getting banned lately... Ubisoft is trying to build a brand new community but it will fail if most of the OG players are getting suspended for dumb reasons or unknown reasons. I don’t feel good for what Ubisoft is doing nowadays.

You've got to be kidding me.
I am THAT player and I tell you: I do not tolerate ANY kind of swearing, bad ("not so family friendly" as you said) jokes - in any language I can understand (or translate). My "ignore list" was always full because of THAT broadcasts, and my worlds were free of players who thought they were "more mature" then others. This includes "hashed" words, acronyms, dotted versions and so on.
Today I own more worlds, including one quite popular, and I can assure you - as long as I play you won't find swearing people in that world: I always persuade such players not to swear - if it's possible. If not: they are banned.
Please do not convince anybody here it was better back then. This particular behavior is unacceptable and should be punished.
It is not the matter of medium age of players. It applies to 5, 10 as well as 50 years old players.
I do not discuss if it should be 730 or 7 days ban or ducktape. This (exactly this) aspect of this game caused me to support the idea of "permaban option" on worldlock - which was not implemented during 2019 PAW. Sad.
