  • Growtopia isn't for kids

One of the points I made in my last big post, which got closed, because the game guardian didn't even read the whole thread (I don't blame him, I think there was like 10,000 words in that post).

Growtopia is not a game for kids - I'm talking about somewhere in the 7 year old range. Currently, Growtopia is rated 12+ on the iOS App Store, but on the Android's Play Store however, they have it set to PEGI 7 (apparently they don't set the rating themselves, but my point remains the same). This is not a game for such young players.

Ubisoft would have to change way too much in the game inorder for it to be appropriate for a child (I won't mention this again, but when I say ''child'' in this post, I mean 5-10 year olds).

Everything they'd have to change have been pointed out by forumers in the last few days, if you've paid attention:

    * Removing every player with a number that has even the slightest sexual/inappropriate side to it (example: 420, 69, 666 etc.)

    * Removing very old items from the game that aren't really kid friendly (cigars, sexy boxers, bikinis, guns, gross items etc.)

    * Being very strict on the rules, causing tons of bans, losing many reasonable players who bring more to the game than just an extra player

    * Hiring even more moderators, possibly hundreds, all inorder to protect innocent children from being scammed, being exposed to casinos or highly toxic players. Hiring that many moderators (or game guardians) can result in corruption in the game, since it would be harder to keep track of hundreds of players that have power in the game.

    * When children get scammed, especially the younger ones, they won't take it easy. They'll most likely cry, and like I said in my last thread, parents don't want their kids playing a game that makes them cry!!!

All those listed points came off the top of my head, and I'm pretty sure there's some more solid points, that people can come up with. If you do, let me know and I'll add it!

Be respectful with replies and don't cause drama or single out players (that includes mods/devs/employees of Ubisoft) and let's have a conversation!

Also, I noticed this. So they claim that their game is for kids above the age of 12. That's a perfect age to start playing, and I agree with them. But what I don't agree with is why do they are being so strict on these ''inappropriate'' type rules, if they claim that the game is for ages 12 and above. 12 year olds know enough...

Agreed, but as NekoRei said, they don't chose the age limit.

Okay, this thread was sent to a trashcan.

I mean why???! They should be fixing all of the problems first and the kids might not enjoy the game because of those IMO.

But they can choose who's channel they sponsor for game advertisement, and they went with the guy that has the youngest fanbase possible.

Wdym sent to a trashcan. Ok then

And one of the problems is this whole transition into trying to become a more kid friendly game. It's breaking the community.

They got hard math equations in this game that 10 year olds can’t even solve and now they’re setting the rating to 7+? This game is also meant for communicating and I could barely spell when I was 7.

now thats a good point... i think you can set your age when you first download the game, so maybe the math equations are easier if you set your age lower?

Gt is basically a toned down version of the stock market and the ever so changing economy. So,economy, for kids. Just like the book titled "HTML for Kids" that can be found on your local bookstore.

A NEET but has a stable job at a cafe

Would try to help whenever possible, except for trying to be social,of course.

you lost me at ''book''. Yes, I have thought about gt basically being.. life, but in a game. But in life, it's not just kids. There's also older, more mature players, and let's not forget those crazy teenagers (lol).

So if real life was owned by ubisoft, they're trying to censor people and get rid of anyone who is not exactly kid friendly.

Well this have a point. They should think that only teenager can play for along time not kids. Kids just play for one time/month then quit.

You can't guarantee anything with an online environment. I'm a step dad, and I've told my wife and kids that a part of me almost wouldn't allow the kids to play Growtopia. It isn't because I think the game isn't appropriate. It's because the online environment and other players could possibly be inappropriate.

The youngest made the mistake of allowing access to somebody and getting some items stolen. Lucky for him step dad could easily replace the stolen items. I also actually had to do some "parenting" because of the situation. My wife was mad at the scammer but I wasn't. I was mad at myself for not taking the time to advise my step son on the online world.

I also had my wife make an adjustment to his account so he can no longer see any text from other players.

I know as a parent you have to monitor and advise your kids in an online environment to keep them safe. I also appreciate that Ubisoft makes an effort to monitor the game. I also understand that they cannot be every place at every time. Ubisoft can police the game but as parents we must police our own children.

Most every game no matter the age range that it targets that has an online environment be will have rules and most of the time the rules are very similar to Growtopia. I might be naive but I'd be interested to see terms of service or rules from other games you think you have more freedom.

Lastly I think Growtopia can be for everyone. Most of the player base is what I would consider kids. I honestly feel it's a lot like real life. What you talk about in private doesn't concern me, but when your in public spaces you should have respect for everyone regardless of thier age.

That's the problem. They don't seem to care whether or not you're talking to your friends privately in a world with just your friends or in a public world. They still punish you, and in my case, a 60 day ban.
