I think the truth about growtopia looks more like this:

Growtopia was never ment to be something big, complex, or complicated.
It had a weak foundation on release and only got worse through years of bad coding practices partially caused by short shedules and the use of seths own sdk proton, which is basically out of support.

Update release cycles have always been very short in growtopia, meaning updates were shallow and often stretched with filler content.
People got accustomed to the rapid release shedules, causing a death-cycle that still continues today.
When growtopia released both seth and hamumu had to work at all fronts at once, turning the game into a quantity over quality project.
They had to neglect many things to keep up with the pressure.
One of those was the community. Seth and hamumu for the most part neglected keeping in touch with their playerbase.
You have to keep in mind, that a large portion of growtopia isn't simply young, but excessively immature and speaks broken english => failure to communicate eg. rules, meaning they'll keep pushing borders.
Seth and Hamumu promoted a handful of players to moderators and granted them exclusive and recognisable clothing and powers. They put them on a pedestal.
The handful of moderators with their hands tied in political matters in contrast to the massive playerbase was a huge mistake.
Moderators turned into easily recognisable idols. They would frequently advertise worlds for self-gain and spent a lot of time with the more articulated upper class of growtopia.

The average growtopian was probably around 12-14 years old at that time, but no one really knew how to handle children.
The failure to educate the young players caused a toxicity snowball. People weren't afraid of punishments.
Seth and Hamumu also made many short sighted decisions that caused massive stains on the games economy, sometimes ruining people over night, or making them insanely rich.
The increasing distance in wealth between the average growtopian and the top 0.1% would make it close to impossible to step up the social ladder with conventional methods.
Increasingly more and more people turned to scams, casinos, bots, autoclickers, spam bots and multiclients causing a strong inflation.
Waves of gullible players complaining about being "hacked" kept on haunting the forums.
The most prominent hackers managed to deeply hurt the games reputation by taking over moderator/dev accounts, or duplicating items.
Those hackers turned into infamous idols, only strengthening the growing growtopian underground.
Black Markets grew in popularity, but the game didn't.
Lack of depth and therefore missing reason to continue playing the game caused some of the richest players to attempt to cash out, motivating more people to do so.
Instead of buying gems just buying wls was the better option.

The issues kept piling up and up and both seth and hamumu would increasingly be the targets of harassement.
Instead of respecting and idolizing the devs and moderators many players learned to get a kick out of messing with the game.
Nowadays you have to feel sorry for moderators.
Hamumu and likely Seth as well started hating the game, though the way it turned out was due to their decisions.
It was their child. They took after the very players that abandoned ship and tried cashing out. They left what they thought was a sinking ship.

Now let's look at the game since ubisoft took over.
        - They have to work with unmaintainable code.
        - They have to work with an sdk no one uses, one that hasn't really been updated in years
        - They had to stabilize an economy they previously knew nothing about
        - They have to fight with tons of harassement regularily
        - Communication with the community improved
        - More moderators have been hired
        - Quality of updates increased a lot
        - Huge gui improvements
        - They attempted to bring the game to consoles (though the way it was done was silly)
        - They introduced guilds and clash, long term supposedly and collective content
        - Player feedback is being considered a lot

People complain about growtopia being full of bugs, but fail to consider, that maybe, just maybe, they're just jumping from bug to bug that seth and hamumu left ubidevs to fix.
I am sure it's a lot more effort to try and make crime pvp work while ensuring it works the same it did before, than just introducing your own card game.

Did the ubisoft staff make mistakes? Yes, a lot, but cut them some slack. Give them air to breathe and keep your hopes up for the next update.
It's fine if you see faults in things you love and try to point them out, but please don't be part of the problem.
Think before you post. Be objective, not toxic.

(Also someone fix the thread title, please)

Indeed, it is true that more team members would lead to more contributions. However, if one does not manage or contribute him/herself well enough, the contributions would eventually be useless or even nothing at all. Adding on, to correct your sentence, there were not only just 2 person managing the community in the past. I could tell you for sure that Seth and Hamumu also paid their own employees (like what Ubisoft did) to manage the game before they even decided to sell to Ubisoft.

Lastly, moderators that are hired by the developers (regardless whether is Seth/Hamumu/Ubisoft) gets paid and moderators that being picked by developers in-game gets famed. Still, they are/were to ensure the game goes smoothly and well-behaved all time.

This. If they were to work on a new code, they'd have to rewrite the entire game if I'm not wrong. Just look at Pixel Worlds, simply uses Unity to add anything they want.

No i don't. I use publicly known available source of information for what i have said. The fact that you keep on playing out of the topic is just a little bit weird since we are here not to discuss about "other ubisoft" you were mentioning at the very beginning.

You may or may not know more than others and now you are telling people to stop acting like they know about something.

I do realize that we are now talking something that is not related to this thread already and should not continue on it here. Send me a reply privately to resolve our argument if you feel like doing so.

You ever thought how hard it is to manage a game, keep it running, keep updates flowing all while working remotely from eachother?
I think though the pandemic they should be given some allowances and some congratulations on how they have handled it.
Should the game have bugs? No, but what game doesn't?
                        It's part of development.
                        What should you do?
Report to Ubisoft through proper channels.

Personally I see it as someone that has zero knowledge of what goes on in the background as I don't so...

I am sure you can't lead a server if it'd be entrusted to you. People are putting great affords to keep the server alive & you are coming + saying such thing. It's not easy & they are trying to fix these problems immediately. You have no right to say something like that just because you are not able to wait 10 minutes-ish.

ngl, i actually miss the old times during 2014-2016 where the servers ain't trashy. But when more content comes, there's bound to be more lag, and bug issues. The only thing about ubi so far is that, I can tell they tryna have some communication with us, but more needs to be done. there must be good communication and relationship between the company and the community, and no, we ain't letting those who started the game very recent to voice out most of the opinions, think about veteran players(over 3 years) and communicate with them. and once a mistake on their part occurs, there has to be some sort of compensation for it, so that people will just ease their anger. [aka Epic Games, they listen to the community alot, they try to fix glitches asap, and if its something on their part they give out things as compensation like v bucks for fortnite]

one of the problems is the things used to run the servers are not that great as before, in worst case they will have to recode the entire game onto a better software that is more up to date. honestly i would prefer if this happens, even if it might cost alot of manpower and time. it could be done bit by bit over time, and hopefully if it does happen, the game would be much more smoother and all the existing bugs like cosmetic visual bugs could be fixed asap.

speaking of communication, we hope that the support team can respond faster and maybe try not to send back too many autogenerated replies. it's not good when we wait for like days or even weeks for something serious and all we get is replies where it does not really help. I get that its hard to respond to everyone's emails but maybe there's some way to filter out the irrelevant ones(like immature ones) and settle more important issues.

ubi done well with gt so far, but like with all the previous mistakes its hard to gain back some of their reputation they had at the beginning. hopefully we get to see more communication in future
