  • This event just turned from the least gambling based to the most gambling based event

Ah, how long have I not written in update discussions and how disappointed I am that the first one I'm writing in a long time is a negative one.

    TL;DR at the bottom

Where should I start? Right, Growtopia's Halloween event, I always see this event as an investor's dreamland. An investor invests in an item 1-2 months before halloween and sells it during halloween to profit. Pretty simple, right? How much you profit purely depends on how much you invest in and the patience to wait for halloween. Last year, growtopia introduced dark ticket to halloween, it had some RNG prizes but they weren't too bad. Dark tickets didn't steal the spotlight from the maw of growganoth. This year however, well... dark king's offering was introduced. Sigh, Ubisoft, what have you done?

Let's start off which the effects of dark king's offering to the economy. The main items' prices that are were directly disrupted are nightmare devil wings, death's scythe, teeny nightmare devil wings and dark sunset cape. Aside from that, the golden items' economy are also indirectly affected, losing their value to be sacrificed. If you've been paying attention to the messages showing who got rare items using dark king's offering, you would know that people are getting rare items every 1-2 minutes. This means that by the end of halloween, there should be many more dark sunset capes, nightmare teeny devil wings and death's scythes than their respective counterparts. This means that their golden variation have lost their value during halloween. Nobody would want to invest in them for halloween anymore. These items obtained from dark king's offering would be super common among growtopians and oversupply means a sharp decrease in their prices.

Next, let me address why dark king's offering is doing more harm than good to new players or players who aren't "rich". Let's get this out of the way: golden items with a nightmare variation is NOT CHEAP. New players who got these expensive items would suddenly obtain lots of dls and won't go be experienced enough to plan on what to do with their dls and won't know the true value of dls as they don't know how hard it is for them to obtain dls at their level. A fool and his money are soon parted. Similarly, new players who become rich suddenly can easily be scammed or lose their dls in a stupid way which creates dissatisfaction and thus growtopia loses their new players. I can already hear some of you applying this point to valentine's week. Well, they're different in a sense that valentine's week has always been a gambling event. The change between what halloween was and is going to be is a big change.

    My message to Ubisoft:
Stop creating new content that are based on luck. This isn't what Growtopia should be. Slowly but surely, Ubisoft has been morphing Growtopia into another gambling game. Please address rants like these so we know what your intention of releasing such an item is.

    My proposal:
Remove dark king's offering next year. What has been done this year cannot be reversed. Think more carefully before releasing content and it doesn't ever hurt to ask the community of our views.

    TL;DR
Dark king's offering contradicts the purpose of celebrating halloween in Growtopia. It disrupts the prices of the golden items and their nightmare variations' economy. It (actually applies to everything that involves gambling) also harms the new players in a sense that they don't know what to do with dls and can be easily scammed.

    Any thoughts?

Great. Exams got delayed to next year. Now I'm back.

This thread sums down to one thing.

You are just silly for nothing. It's more expensive than gambling for GHC. and if we had a public broadcast feature for ghc, we would see them every minute. really.

ARE THEY REALLY OBTAINED EVERY MINUTE?

NO. stay afk for a while and check it for yourself.

The only problem you perceive is the broadcast one.

I think it would be a immense surprise to you how many people get THINGAMABOBS everyday.

GHC is one item while multiple can be obtained from the DKO.

You wouldn't see GHC broadcasts every minute if that was a thing. If you would, that'd be 1440 GHCs everyday which is just not possible.

Ubisoft has a trend which is to add gambling items galore, yes while some may have existed before Ubisoft, they have went in and added one for each event or even multiple such as Lucky Fortune Cookie for LNY.

You just helped proved my point actually, dko is more expensive than gbc. Thus it's an even worse gambling event than Valentine's

Thing is though your only saying this because it pops up in the chat but how do you know people don't get thingamabobs a minute I get the GHC argument but imo it isn't as bad as everyone thinks

You're missing the point. The point of Halloween is investing g items to be sacrificed. The gap between Valentine's and Halloween is 8 months. Getting ghc when it's not Valentine's is hard. Back then, there's a set amount of g items during halloween and thus a set amount of n items during halloween. Now the 8 month gap doesn't matter since you can get n items during halloween. Do you comply, hermano?

To be honest and real, it's basically just the same as people getting GHC except it's not being broadcasted. Excusing GBC because Valentine has always been a gambling game is just not strong IMO.
There were hundreds of Dark King's Offering being sacrificed every minute and looking at just how often peoples get a pair of Ndev didn't even justify the sacrificial cost.

I don't get why people is so against the lucky winner case. I mean people got lucky and get rich by that way is not something we can argue on. We do not protest on somebody getting rich from a lucky draw.
This is true for nearly every single big 'giveaway' hosted in the game. Just a few months ago people were complaining about Mint Julep not being distributed fairly during KyDerby or just straight up being jealous because they didn't get one and talk trash to those who won a Julep purely by luck and a little bit of skill. I have never seen anyone complain about Derby race except for this year and the cause of it? Of course because Mint Julep price value is way higher than previous year. It's value became something people use as weak base to start complaining. I can be certain that peoples only care because they did not get any valueable or they don't like seeing other getting one.

Altho i didn't against that DKO is bad in term of it's reward table, i do still think it's not a bad addition.
Perhaps, if it doesn't contain any existing special sacrificial item such as Death Scarf or Ndev, and instead offer it's own unique new item, then it would be much better since right now it's kinda opposing the supposed way of obtaining certain item in the game. I was expecting some Gross Out item that were removed previously to make it's come back from this addition.

I like your suggestion regarding dko giving a new unique item. For your other rebuttals, I've addressed them above.

the fact that gross out items are not revamped is a big turn off for me, was hoping we would get them instead of ndevs and others

Ubisoft is a big company, they have to get that $$$. A small group of people who purchase gems and gamble them on halloween, valentine's or somewhere else are the ones who fund Growtopia. If you can make money on silly gamblers, why not? If you personally are smart enough not to fall for this, why bother?

But yeah RT and Hamumu Software weren't THAT desperate to get money from holiday events, ngl

This is true if ubisoft actually doesn't care about the community.

      • #9
It gives some chance for low and mid-class player to actually be rich, which is good for them ofc they don’t have to wait for valentine to actually earn a lot

the thing is just it broadcasts to everybody who got the rare prizes and what they got. this will make the new players or every players very greedy for the rare items to get a lot of wls with just relying on luck. which is very bad for the players and will have a reason to quit this game.

and yeah, this also makes the growganoth one of the biggest gambling event.

I don't see any harm on this new update.
Player already know the risk of gambling their only life savings.
It just that I still don't understand
what is the different of this gambling and casino gambling?

Some player said casino gambling is illegal because you might get scam.
arghhh idk what to say lol.
anyways i love this new update.

Because Ubisoft doesn't earn anything if players gamble with eachother, but they do if people buy gems and then gamble them away. They could have made dark offerings purchasable with world locks but that wouldn't make as much of profit for them
