Ah, how long have I not written in update discussions and how disappointed I am that the first one I'm writing in a long time is a negative one.
TL;DR at the bottom
Where should I start? Right, Growtopia's Halloween event, I always see this event as an investor's dreamland. An investor invests in an item 1-2 months before halloween and sells it during halloween to profit. Pretty simple, right? How much you profit purely depends on how much you invest in and the patience to wait for halloween. Last year, growtopia introduced dark ticket to halloween, it had some RNG prizes but they weren't too bad. Dark tickets didn't steal the spotlight from the maw of growganoth. This year however, well... dark king's offering was introduced. Sigh, Ubisoft, what have you done?
Let's start off which the effects of dark king's offering to the economy. The main items' prices that are were directly disrupted are nightmare devil wings, death's scythe, teeny nightmare devil wings and dark sunset cape. Aside from that, the golden items' economy are also indirectly affected, losing their value to be sacrificed. If you've been paying attention to the messages showing who got rare items using dark king's offering, you would know that people are getting rare items every 1-2 minutes. This means that by the end of halloween, there should be many more dark sunset capes, nightmare teeny devil wings and death's scythes than their respective counterparts. This means that their golden variation have lost their value during halloween. Nobody would want to invest in them for halloween anymore. These items obtained from dark king's offering would be super common among growtopians and oversupply means a sharp decrease in their prices.
Next, let me address why dark king's offering is doing more harm than good to new players or players who aren't "rich". Let's get this out of the way: golden items with a nightmare variation is NOT CHEAP. New players who got these expensive items would suddenly obtain lots of dls and won't go be experienced enough to plan on what to do with their dls and won't know the true value of dls as they don't know how hard it is for them to obtain dls at their level. A fool and his money are soon parted. Similarly, new players who become rich suddenly can easily be scammed or lose their dls in a stupid way which creates dissatisfaction and thus growtopia loses their new players. I can already hear some of you applying this point to valentine's week. Well, they're different in a sense that valentine's week has always been a gambling event. The change between what halloween was and is going to be is a big change.
My message to Ubisoft:
Stop creating new content that are based on luck. This isn't what Growtopia should be. Slowly but surely, Ubisoft has been morphing Growtopia into another gambling game. Please address rants like these so we know what your intention of releasing such an item is.
My proposal:
Remove dark king's offering next year. What has been done this year cannot be reversed. Think more carefully before releasing content and it doesn't ever hurt to ask the community of our views.
TL;DR
Dark king's offering contradicts the purpose of celebrating halloween in Growtopia. It disrupts the prices of the golden items and their nightmare variations' economy. It (actually applies to everything that involves gambling) also harms the new players in a sense that they don't know what to do with dls and can be easily scammed.
Any thoughts?
