  • Anyone noticed that ever since Ubisoft took over the game has gone downhill?

They said they would keep it true to the spirit of the game, but we all knew that was a load, right? IOTM was the first sign of things to come, cuz you gotta have that limited time item in the cash shop to prey on FOMO (google it)! Now we have, for the first time ever afaik, an even more expensive gem pack, which I'm sure will soon be followed up by a $99.99 pack because every mobile game has one! This game used to at least have *some soul*, now it's just hollow.

The only thing I will give Ubisoft credit for is they started adding more items and achievements for playing ___ amount of years. Thank you.

Now watch this thread get deleted lol

You have to thank you to ubisoft for buying growtopia from the old developer so the old dev dont have to handle this kind of person who will always complain the game

Ubisoft has lost my respect. Growtopia was a much better game when ran by the original creators because they have the true vision where the game should go and how to balance things.

This thread by Hamumu did not age well

        -------------
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME, A PLAYER? No big changes. The only thing you should notice is improved modding, quicker customer support, and eventually, even better updates. Seth will still show up to spawn lava everywhere and troll people as he does, Hamumu will still be cranking out weird items and updates.

DOES THIS MEAN YOU GUYS SOLD OUT AND ARE LEAVING?! Well, we certainly sold something, but not out. We aren't planning on leaving any time soon. We will continue to do Growtopia updates ourselves as we help their developers understand the code base so they can pitch in too.

DOES THIS MEAN THE GAME WILL BE RUINED WITH PAY2WIN OR ADS OR WHATEVER ELSE? What? Why would you even ask that?! Geez. One of the reasons that we've partnered with Ubisoft (besides the awe inspiring development, marketing, and legal muscle) is that they share the same long term vision for this special game and its community as we do.

Hamumu was notoriously condescending toward players and personally handed me double-digit infraction numbers on my main account while he was around. The feelings of disregard are definitely mutual.

Yes, I do in fact prefer when my games are run by real people with hearts and souls as opposed to a publicly traded megacorp whose only concern is whether or not their shareholders are happy. This is true

No game developer team, nobody, wants to run a game where literally 70% break the rules of the game daily. You have organized illegal casino rings, illegal hackers trying to exploit the game, very, very, very toxic community. Come on, who do you think even runs the game, it's a small branch of Ubisoft with a smaller team. Gosh, Ubisoft isn't the problem, go blame players who try to break the game. Servers crashing, overloaded? You can blame those bots that people make. Ubisoft is already working their @@sses off running the game. Imagine logging onto a game where your team is spat and disrespected against. Problem isn't the game dev, they only have so many resources to work with, the problem starts with the toxic, degenerate players.

The problem is the lack of concern toward fixing these systemic issues. As far as I can tell, nothing has really been done about casinos for nearly two years. Even if some secretive measures were implemented, they clearly have not been effective in addressing a problem that has affected every player’s experience in some way. There is so much resourceful community feedback by players that are concerned about the state of the game, and still the major problems are ignored — but overcompensation on other facets of the game are meant to push the problems out of mind.

And blaming the players? What kind of philosophy are you reading where everyone is a model, upstanding citizen?

They can nuke casinos all they want, they can remove the roulette wheel, but casino hosts will just find a new way to start a casino. Let's say that the roulette wheel was removed, they will start using dirt to gamble. Heard of a dirt game? There is in infinite amount of ways to gamble, and what I fear the most is, these casino hosts decide to make an online website just for Growtopia casino. You see? You can't just combat underground crime rings.

Ubisoft more or less already owned GT at that time, maybe not officially but they probably recommended doing IOTMs. While it's not as bad as other stuff, IOTM kind of cheapen any progression by just buying expensive looking items with gems (often purchased for real money in the beginning)

People don't blame our game devs, more the management at Ubisoft. Growtopia was running a lot better with a higher player base, a smaller budget and a smaller team when Seth and Hamumu owned it. Corporate greed demands increasing profit, better servers are not worth it cost/profit wise. With indie devs this game would be able to run for atleast another 5-10 years. With the way things are going this game will die in 3 years.

I agree with the profit margins part. I honestly never hated or blamed anyone for Growtopia's overall unplayablity, but once players just started to push every blame to Ubisoft, I decided to shut those toxic mouths up with "Facts and Logic".

I'm one with this, it's not only the players. Both are at fault. Both sides contributed major damage to the game.

When you read through the whole Hamumu's and Seth's blog post it sure hits us right in our feels, in the end. Inevitably Growtopia will just be a part of memory, destroyed by the players
