Creating words that make sense by default

Now as a kid I used to read books for an author named Roald Dahl he made kids books ranging from Charlie and the chocolate factory to Matilda to The BFG (Yes he predicted the farmables economy break in gt)
Anyways so one thing that I loved about his writing style is him making up words that make sense by default for example
scrumdiddlyumptious which isn't a word yet hearing it you get an idea of what it means so let's create words like that cuz why not

I disliked the style. Cos I never felt a sense of realism from it, I know it was for kids, but I would have enjoyed his books a lot more if he used normal words and narrated it a bit better.
