Lets be real here, he was selling in-game items for monetary gain which is illegal. He would've had a shorter sentence, or just faced hefty fines, but no, he was literally scamming people which is a federal offence. He should be glad to even serve 10 years, because he could be serving more for what he did.

ur is telling me it's fine for a 16 year old teen to serve 10 years for 'petty theft' (is this theft, not sure. news sources say he got away for around 100 dollar which would be petty theft)

By the way, 10 years is the maximum sentence that could be given. Most likely got a fine (not sure tho)

This story was always funny to me, but it also infuriates me too how smug he had to be to think, “If I can scam in Growtopia, I can scam in real life!”

Scamming does not sound bad because the scope of the crime most people are familiar with is losing items on a virtual game. However, I really do not need to comprehensively explain the implications of scamming and its potentially massive impact on people.

There is a dearth if interest for me to actually do research on Singaporean law, however, this was probably classified under the same crime as more serious, organized scams. Like you said, the probability that he received a maximum sentence is incredibly low considering he is (presumably) a minor, but the classification of the crime was most likely why the maximum sentence could have been so severe.
