    Well, it's a free-to-play game with additional in-app purchases - like most mobile games in the industry now. Growtopia, like most do not succumb to ad revenue as their source of finance, this is something both Seth and Hamamu along with Ubisoft have done. So, there's only one option left—in-app purchases. The Team have to keep the lights on; the heating on; the servers running; the equipment primed; the staff paid. This means they need profit—how else does a company make money from something free?

    The game is not pay-2-win, not in contrast to the majority of free games out there. You just have to work your ass off - just like in real life. You don't get hand-outs, you work your ass off to get up the pecking order and to obtain the items you want. It's that simple. Stop being lazy and go earn some gems and buy your desired items. Stop complaining about having to work to get what you want. Stop being a bunch of Socialists. You either a) do the work or b) buy gems and speed up the process. There's no c) complain about it hoping they hand you out infinite World Locks and a pony.

    What events are you referring to? And who is this thread aimed at; the community, or the developers? I'm genuinely confused. I wanted to say something about the matter but after these miscommunications I'd rather have it cleared out first.

    In Sethmumu era, they almost run this game by theirself. They design and program anything, and use some free CC 3.0 assets. But this is Ubisoft, imagine how many staffs that need to be paid.

    But in another side, I agree with myLocation as well. Some events like summer token thingy and overpowered (but not really) IOTMs they made. It is just.... It's getting crazy.

    This is why I feel like we're seeing more gem-alternative ways to speed up certain processes as seen with the Guild event and these Summer Tokens. The way the game earns revenue has not changed, and Ubisoft itself doesn't even take the game seriously enough to advertise or be public about it - dismissing it as a mini project. So, either they are doing this to keep afloat whilst making enough profit to be happy with or they have more than enough and it's just a good way of getting more cash from people. It's hard to know. So it's a twofold case; the game isn't exactly booming so it could be the former, but it isn't exactly pauper so it could be the latter.

    I agree with mylocation but since ubisoft aquired growtopia, i think there are a lot more people working for growtopia now, they need to get paid so IAP is created.

    IAP has existed for much longer than Ubisoft’s ownership of GT

    I disagree with every point written by the OP.

    Even if you try hard to implement what you want, it won't happen. An MMO built this way from the very start will forever be economically oriented. Even if they add things that would boost up creativity, it will forever just end up falling into a money-making society. (Actually, building contest for guild events is totally lame and illogical. Well it does promote creativity (?) but still, you're still forced to be creative to profit.)

    I also think the op's point is very one sided, biased and undeniably childish, you're talking as if you've played growtopia for just a couple of days. Yes, let's say that growtopia was much more creative back then, but still theoretically, the main aim of playing this game is to thrive, and for you to successfully climb up this harsh ladder is to make a fortune.

    Basically, sadly for you, this is how this kind of game works.

    Growtopia is just not the place for creativity. You can argue all you want, but at the end of the idea, goddamn MS Paint is a better avenue for “creativity”.

    Honestly, GT is just a distribution service at this point. GT didn’t revolutionize painting, or storytelling, or gaming.
