Default How do I read more / how to make reading a habit?

Pretty sure there are a lot of avid book readers here in the forums so to you I ask, how do I, a procrastinating teenager who gets distracted a lot, read more books, how do I make it a habit, and how do I concentrate on what I am reading?

In my part of the world, our school starts in about a month, and I made it a goal to start getting into reading this summer. Our summer lasts for about 3 months and for the past 2 months, I haven't read anything, I constantly procrastinate on reading.

Get a cheap e-reader, just the thought of using this shiny new device will make you read more.

First of all, do you enjoy movies, TV shows and comics? Books are practically the same thing, but they’re just packaged in a different medium. Find out what you like in those stories and try to find an interesting story you like in a book. Books don’t have to be boring if the story is engaging enough.

If the medium itself is what’s boring to you, try listening to audiobooks. You don’t have to lie around simply reading for hours on end, and you can go about your daily business still doing productive things while still listening to the book. It’s a great way to get into reading imo.

but do take my words with a grain of salt, I only used to be an avid reader

dont force yourself and yeah just try reading a novel. borrow/buy a book (from the library) with a title that interests you. learning books are still sht

usually the title will tell a bit of the story hence appealing to your interests

or listen to an audiobook for now! listening to one will help you to read by yourself

long story short, without all the babbling, you either read, or you don't. There's a reason your procrastinating.. you know.

There are quite a few factors that need to be considered. First of all, what is it that you're reading? Is it a textbook or a story book. I'll explain abt textbook first. Basically, if you need to prepare for your syllabus, you need motivation. Since your studies haven't officially started, motivation might be hard to acquire. Getting a tutor helps a lot, since that basically allows you to study because of responsibility rather than motivation. If you can't do that, you need to produce motivation within yourself. Think about the future maybe. If you're narrow minded (as most of us are) try making challenges for yourself or if you really don't want to, maybe ask your parents for help. They can help you study as they care about you and would be happy to see you study.
If, by chance, you were talking about a storybook, that's a bit more easier. You know how you watch a movie or play a game, and sometimes in good games you feel excited and don't wanna stop playing or watching, well the same is with books. Thrill develops inside you and you want to know what happens next (this is assuming the book is good). I just don't wanna stop reading the book until its finished.

You got to find good books, books that are interesting to read and interest you.
Once you find it, you will be used to it and voila!

Well, I don't read books that much, I read books in Skyrim for some reason.

Why do you want to read more anyways? Is it because you genuinely want to read more, or do you feel like you have to? If it's the latter, then don't force yourself to do something you don't like (this applies to pretty much anything, if you don't have to do something then don't force yourself to do it if you don't want to).

Of course, I'm not saying books are bad (in fact, my entire bookcase is overfilled), I'm just saying that it's definitely not something for everyone and shouldn't be forced on yourself if you don't like it.
