I am pretty sure there is no actual invitation and it's more if you have time.

This is correct, all moderators are invited regardless of our status (1.0, 2.0, etc.). The 1.0 staff received just as much of an invitation as the 2.0 staff did, it's up to them if they can make time for the players on that day or not.
It was a pity not everybody could make it this year, but that's life.
