Default Is it possible to switch growtopia's code base?

What i mean is move from whatever its running on, because rn its obvious that its causing alot of limiting of ideas, and speed of updates/ size/ functionallity.

Is it possible to move to something like unity or some other engine? or would that take awhile/mess up sever data or other things

    Hey Spyroboy!

Interesting idea, that would entirely depend on the Developers, and since switching to a completely different development platform or programming language would mean re-programming the entire game, I personally find that just would not be possible on a practical level, in my earnest opinion.

We also need to consider the fact that replacing the code would potentially and temporarily put the game offline, and I wouldn't want that affecting the playerbase.

    Take care.

Wow i didnt expect a reply! Alright that makes sense however there is a few things.

Yea reprogramming the entire game is a thing. But you could always do it has a side project. Similar to consoles. I know Realm of the mad god did this, they even tied in a campaign. They kept the servers up until they were done and ready for the switch.

If you has ubisoft really wanted to. even though there 2 very different games. Ask Deca about how to go about that. since they know more has a company and devs than a consumer like me and others

Has nothing to do with the engine/code by itself.

Rewriting 7 years worth of production & battle-tested code would certainly still take plenty of time, a lot of time, enough to stop having updates for let's say at least half a year...

In the programming domain rewriting of existing is something that can hardly be ever considered, rather something dreaded aswell. Not only would it be time consuming but also a massive money sink if updates had to be stopped for such an extended period of time. And for what benefits? Growtopia is Growtopia, and people play it for what it is. Changing the client's game engine could perhaps improve code design and structure and maybe allow for better graphic effects (thru Unity), but think about everything unintended that might involves. Everything would have to somehow be the same which is a lot of time and effort to be spent for little.

The main issue the game has is the lack of server testing and quality checking, not necessarily an issue of whatever the game runs on. You may have many employees that are dedicated to quality assistance, if they have little to no knowledge in the game any exploit might be able to slip through.

It's a dangerous process to go through and usually unrewarding. Realm of the mad god is by no means even slightly close to every single feature Growtopia has, thus the work factor is a lot greater. This is something to consider when drastically deciding to revamp the core of a service.
