Hello Growtopians,

We are aware that you are very interested in the future of Growtopia on consoles and our plans for it. We owe you an explanation for why there is no January Item of the Month on consoles and why console players are not included in this year’s Anniversary celebrations, so we’d like to give you a bit of insight which will hopefully answer all your questions.

The console version of Growtopia for PS4, Xbox and Switch was launched in July 2019, just a few months ago, with relatively high expectations. To make sure everyone had the best experience possible, we took your feedback into account and worked hard to give you more frequent content updates and events. Part of these efforts involved porting over six years of content to a console environment. This might not sound spectacular, but transitioning content from one different platform to another was (and still is) a very time-consuming challenge.

We also arranged various community events during annual events like Thanksgiving and Winterfest, and hope you had as much fun with us as we did with you!

Unfortunately, good intentions and best wishes will not sustain a live service game alone. As mentioned before, we had high expectations for the console version, but - and we’re very sad about this fact - the player base has been declining ever since release, to the point where the console version is simply no longer as sustainable as it needs to be in order for us to release and port content for it on a consistent basis.

We hope you can understand that we, as a small team, only have limited resources available and that we have many, many more players playing on Android, iOS, and PC, meaning the focus of those resources must lean toward those platforms. As such, last month, we made the hard decision to focus our efforts exclusively on the Mobile & PC versions of Growtopia for now… but what does that mean for consoles exactly?

First and foremost, we do not have a shutdown date for Growtopia on Consoles planned. If this decision comes to happen, we will make sure to inform you at least 1 month before. The game will continue to be available for everyone wanting to play Growtopia on PS4, Xbox, or Switch, with the caveat that there will be no big content updates in the near future. Also, bug fixes will not be addressed unless a critical issue arises (such as not being able to play at all). The Customer Support Team will still be available to you and will help you with issues you encounter as best they can, and the Community Team will still be available on the Forums and will show up in-game from time to time – they’re still looking forward to seeing you in our community events when possible!

We will not be able to allocate resources to run console-based Annual Events anymore, unfortunately, but monthly recurring events like Carnival, etc., will still run, leaving many options and possibilities to continue enjoying the game. We'll be here for you and encourage you to continue playing Growtopia on consoles. If at any point in the future there are changes or news for consoles, we'll make sure to update you as always.
