    Default How to remove save.dat?

So my sister downloaded something she saw from a super-broadcast, hours later she got hacked and I went to investigate what happened. I saw a save.dat file in the gt folder and whenever I delete it, it comes back when you open the game. Are there any ways on how to remove it permanently?

save.dat isn't a malicious file. It's a file the game makes whenever you login to your account in the game and it saves your password so you don't have to enter it every time you open the game.
That's why some programs are named "save.dat stealers". These are programs that steal that file so hackers can get your password.

(I'm not entirely sure if THATS the reason why the game makes save.dat files, but I'm 100% sure that file is safe.)

Owh, so the stealer only works if you click on an app like for ex. Gabb?

What if I deleted every thing she downloaded and re-install growtopia, can the hackers still steal her save.dat?

Delete the .exe she downloaded and check any startup folders for anything out of the ordinary the program may have installed on her device that may run every time she starts up her device. If everything has been dealt with they shouldn't be able to steal her save.dat file again.

Also scan the device using anti-malware software just in case.

That is pretty much the reason save.dat exists, it's for saving your login details and all your settings.

That being said, if you really want to be extra secure and don't mind having to re-enter your password each time, you could try setting the save.dat file to "Read Only" so it doesn't save your password.

id simply recommend enabling windows defender or any antimalware software as they can register any latest malicious file.

scary things about what you download can be anything, so if youre unable to locate the file, its mostly hidden, just use a software that locates it. malwarebytes and windows defender itself can protect you and warn you (unless you disabled them or allowed the malware to be ingored by the software youre using.)
