Honestly, i believe it should be 16-20 as those are the times that you have the most free time BUT you cant trust anyone under the age of 25 with a multimillion worth game. Im just confused why they are even doing this or why people want to apply so bad... I'd rather do something more productive and study to be able to get an actual job in Ubisoft Abu Dhabi Headquarters... Don't take my word for it, im just a stupid person with stupid thoughts as some people said and will say.

We mostly agree on the reasoning a lot of you have shared on why we decided on hiring guardians who are minimum 16 years of age. Being a gamer since a kid I do remember how my mind worked in terms of gaming when I was below 15 versus when I was 17 above, there is indeed a huge difference. I do understand that there may be 14 or 13 year old players who are responsible and/or think maturely, however, being a guardian esp. a mod takes a lot of dedication and moderating is a huge responsibility since they are given powers and privileges in the game, we have to be careful with that. To quote Uncle Ben "With great power comes great responsibility".

Anyway, I'd like to know more what other players think about this topic.
I'd definitely not set it under 16, maybe little higher (17 max I would say), but definitely not lower than 16.

Default Age limit good at 16?

I have been reading through this thread and I have to say that both sides young and old have had some good points. The problem is that if Ubisoft makes the age requirement lower it would become increasingly harder for them to read through all the thousands of applications they get. At the end of the day would make the age requirement lower make a difference? I am sure they can find great guardians from 16+-year-old players. No point making Ubisoft's already tough job harder for them. This isn't a question of age it's a question of time management and thinking about the game more than some 14-year-olds dream to become a guardian. This is my opinion looking forward to reading the responses.

I heard most of the new guardians were 18 years old. I see your point but at 14 and 15 is where you're not mature yet. (For most people) I really think it's the right decision to start it at 16. I feel like that is when people start to get more mature.

I feel like 16 years of age is about right (14-15 would be pushing it a bit, but could still work).

I'm not sure if the age difference has that large of an effect, since players would need to demonstrate this in the application itself (the writing portion, extensive knowledge about the game, etc). They would then have to prove themselves as Guardians, which is pretty self explanatory.

Anyways, that's my two cups of tea. Feel free to let me know if you agree or not!

i think we should make it 15, if teens are 14 and are turning 15, they can still apply.

I believe it should be age 14. Just because ShadowSurfer was an old moderator doesn't mean anything, he still banned scammers and casinos, same as guardians report and moderators ban today. ShadowSurfer was my favorite moderator, and the youngest. He impacted the game positively. If you guys really think dropping the limit to age 14 is a problem, I disagree. Guardians are granted INSANELY LOW AMOUNT OF PERMISSIONS. If I'm not wrong, they can only tape, mute, and curse a player, any other punishment, they report to people with the higher role, moderators, for them to take a look into. ShadowSurfer had ALL PERMISSIONS, a MODERATOR, and it was no problem! I know guardians get promoted to moderators after some time if they are worthy, maybe if you are 14-16, you need to show more worthiness than a 16 year old.

I'd agree if they lowered the age minimum to 15 years old, but not less as a younger teen won't be able to take full responsibility for any wrong actions.

No. Teens that are 14 that are yet to turn 15 will still be considered 14 unless they turn 15 within the 3 days when the applications are open.

    Default Please! Understand

Nekorei, this is coming from a player who has played since 4th grade!, please do not lower the guardian age minimum to 14 here’s why, the mindset of a 14 year old is way different then a 16 year olds. For instance when I was 14 I would get mad if someone would scam me obviously but I would’ve gotten revenge somehow and if that a guardian was chosen at the age of 14 just imagine what they would’ve done. In general I think 15 should be the bare minimum and please consider my thoughts as it a very experienced and logical thinker, I am never biased and I always say what’s right. FYI, I’ve been playing since age 11. And then we have people that say oh well some 16 year olds are immature and there are 14 year olds that are mature but truth be told, a 16 year old will think much more logically and has gone through much more in life then a 14 year old.

For the people that say “oh but shadow surfer was chosen as moderator at 14” and “Zerkon was chosen at 11/12”, from my 5 and a 1/2 years of playing gt I have enough experience to say that at the time Growtopia was still growing! And the majority of the players were aged 9-12. We didn’t really have adults or 16 year olds playing the game. Growtopia has changed since 2013 it is now 2020 our generation of kids is completely different although the gap is about 3-4 years. And also shadow surfer and Zerkon were exceptions.

And for those that say I am 14 and I don’t have patience I want to become guardian because I am tired of seeing scams, well we have the /report button and that sentence just shows how a 14 year old thinks overall.

    Please consider this, nekorei

Why would the age be lowered? That sounds more like a desperate, personal appeal that grossly overestimates an extreme minority. Someone was thinking of applying…

There are copious reasons why we do not need fourteen year-old moderators. Firstly, the almost quantitative descriptor of maturity as if it exists on some age-correlated spectrum, and that only the precocious handful of children get the maturity waiver is ridiculous. I definitely thought I could have been a moderator when I was twelve because I, by my own definitions, thought I was mature and the job a collection of facile tasks to complete. However, every year I have played this game, it is not innocuous to me that I can find something to cringe at: a headstrong argument, a contrived personality trait, a preference toward my in-group. I might have done the job well enough, but I doubt any of the Growtopia populace would want me in that position. That is the same glaring issue I have seen first-hand with younger moderators. While I respect Zerkon and such, he, along with the other mods under twenty, always made me question how equipped they were when compared to someone like Aimster, who appeared very dependable and approachable.

And that brings me to my second point: no one wants to be managed by someone their own age. It is incredibly awkward, and the level of trust is not the same. I moderated a pretty large forum community when I was eleven, and having to ban people for using inappropriate language was super uncomfortable, like I was tattling on the people I was reprimanding. Even online, the interaction feels much the same.

That is my tangential tirade for the month. I will go back to funposting now.
